Rehomed Ridgebacks - 2019

SEBASTIAN was just the Tonic

SebastianJill
SebastianJill2

We always refer to the fact that the dogs in our care are “rescued”, but equally as often the families who adopt them tell us how they too were “rescued” by their new doggy family member.  When we lose a dog, the grief is immense and I’m sure we all feel that we can never bare the pain of another loss like that in our lives but, as time moves on, we find ourselves daring to open our hearts again.  That’s what happened with Jill – bereft after the loss of their furry companion and with enough sadness and grief to engulf them, they finally felt READY … and when they were, SEBASTIAN was ready too.  6 weeks down the line, and it’s Christmas time … Sebastian’s first in his new home and in Jill’s own words, a much happier Christmas than they could ever have envisaged.  In essence, they rescued each other right back.  Merry Christmas Sebastian .. and a VERY happy New Year  xxx

GHILLIE .... Gorgeous and the sweetest poppet ever

Ghillie

It’s often assumed that the dogs we rehome have had a terrible life.  That perhaps they’ve been abused or neglected or mistreated in some way.  Of course, that can happen but in many cases it’s simply a case that circumstances or situations change and the home they are in is sadly no longer the best fit for them.  This was the case with Ghillie.  Nobody could possibly say he was not adored.  Nobody could say he wasn’t loved and certainly nobody could say he was not wanted but, beyond anything that could be altered, the status quo could simply not continue.  The family was devastated because a beautiful dog (inside and outside) as good as Ghillie doesn’t come along very often.  As always, we made it a priority to find EXACTLY the right family for Ghillie – not just for him, but for his devastated owners who had to make the decision to give him up.

Well, Christmas miracles really do happen and what a new home he has.  He was picked up and wrapped in love from day one.  Slotted right into the new family and straight away took to their existing dogs.  In fact, as the family handed him over it was beautiful to hear them say it was like he had “been with them all along”.  This makes us feel happy because we know we got it right.  It makes the owners who had to give Ghillie up happy because they know he will be loved …. and it makes Ghillie happy because … well, he deserved the best and he got it.   Good lad Ghillie.  Be happy and contented and know you were and always will be loved to the moon and back. xx

OLIVE needed no PopEye to be happy

olive2
Olive

As is very often the way, finding the right  “lid for your pot” is all it takes to be happy and we are delighted that Olive has found her lid too!  At just one year old she has slid into her new family seamlessly and is already completely content.  When we get messages and updates it really does make our day and already we’ve had photos and video of Olive which show just how wonderful the match for her is.  Well done sweetheart … remember we loved you first!

GRACE has gone to pastures new

Grace

We are Ridgeback Rescue.  We rehome Ridgebacks.  That’s what we do … but sometimes the Ridgeback in question has a “friend”!  When Grace’s owner decided she needed somebody to spend more time with her than he could offer, he came to us to look for help.  But when Grace came, she also had Millie with her.  Now, while we COULD have split them up, that just seemed so wrong as these two really were partners in crime so we went ahead and found BOTH of them a home where they could stay together.  Millie is short of leg and long of coat, but she’s still a hound with very “houndy” attributes, so finding a family for them to be together was right up our street.

We are thrilled that this pair of muchkins got their wish – a home in a quiet country village, lots of long walks, open fields, love, affection and most importantly EACH OTHER.  Have a lovely life ladies xx

Our Little CHUCKY EGG!!!

Chuck

This is the sublime Chuck!  Unfortunately Chuck found himself in the unenviable position where his family circumstances had changed and his family felt he just wasn’t getting what he needed.

After a teeny tiny spell on our books, he was spotted and instantly adored by Paula.  Paula was already on our list of Potential Owners so we knew that she would make a perfect fit for our little Chucky egg.

He has settled in brilliantly with his ready-made family in Wales, and of course with his new sister Sasha.  Without missing a beat, his is already enjoying snuggling on the sofa like an old pro.

We have had photos and messages from Paula letting us know in no uncertain terms just how loved he is and the fact that he will never be returning to Rescue’s books.

We love to see all our past dogs … but we agree that we’d rather never have them back again! News of their brilliant life turn-arounds is what we crave more than anything.

Good luck Chuck.  xx

Heeeeeeere's BAYLEY!

bailey ears
Bayley is a wonderful 8 month old girl.  She is cheeky and full of life, exuberant and enthusiastic … well, just like a Ridgeback puppy should be!

Sadly, with the best will in the world, not all arrangements work out and Bayley’s family found themselves in the unenviable situation that their home life had changed and she was simply not getting the level of attention she deserved.

They made the decision to let Bayley go, heartbreaking as it was, because they knew it was the best thing for her and, at just 8 months of age, she could make a brand new start and move forward with her life.

We were delighted to have been asked to assist in finding just the right home for such a wonderful girl and it wasn’t long before we were able to select Michael from our list of Potential Owners.  Everything about him and his family fit perfectly with what Bayley needs and the meeting was arranged.  Love at first sight is probably the best way to describe their new partnership.  Both are delighted with their new best buddy and the fun has already begun.

You only have to look at the videos to see how happy she is in her new family and we can’t thank Michael enough for giving her a new start, new home, new family … and I would say new bed of her own to sleep in, but we’ve already heard that she’s pinched the comfy chair from the conservatory and claimed it as her own (paws clearly right under the table!!)

Her recall is excellent and they started together over short distances just to make sure the bond was there before testing it with any more distance and she responded to the whistle every time enabling them to go further afield.  Check out the videos to see just what a happy girl she is

Have a wonderful life together.

ROXY - finally, your new life can start

RoxyAngelaLove
RoxyAngelaCar

Today is THE day!!!!!!!! We are thrilled to be able to say that our beautiful Roxy went off to her forever home this lunch time – Safe in the arms of her new family who have followed her story and been keen to love her from day one. She will have all the love and care in the world with Angela and is set to live the life she always deserved.
Angela writes: We got back home about half an hour ago and Roxy’s now covering every corner of the house and garden and getting to know sister Sue and brother in law Peter …. she instantly accepted them and is already charming them into a great friendship 🎉
We called in at Pets at Home to buy her a bed, some food and other bits and she handled it magnificently. The place was full of children and she was totally unfazed by them – I think it’s almost safe to say she has been with kids before. We called at Lyme Park so she could have a wee and stretch her legs before we went to Didsbury. She’s met the 2 smallest grandchildren and was calm and happy as they stroked her chatted to her – even met their cat and didn’t chase it.
All in all a great start. She’s now lying in front of the wood burning stove and has time to settle before bedtime. Thank you so much for meeting us today, 💕 the house feels very different tonight and it’s clear that we have both missed having 4 paws in our lives💕 Will send you some photos from our journey home shortly! Kind regards and huge thanks Alan and Angela

WILLOW - it's like she was always meant to be there

WillowAndy
WillowAndyCar

We love it when our new owners get in touch and today’s message came from Andy and Willow.  Sometimes, you just know the partnership you have picked is the right one and was meant to be – these two hit it off from the start.  Andy writes: Willow is settling in very well. I love her to bits already and she is like my shadow. She took to me and the house very easily and we’re having a great time. Thank you so much for all you did in matching us.

Andy, we couldn’t be happier x

DAKOTA - surrendered, fostered and now ... REHOMED

Dakota has had a bit of a stop/start few months recently.  Sadly, her family situation changed which meant that neither partner could give Dakota the time or home she needed.  We gladly stepped in and offered foster accommodation for her to give her family time to reorganise themselves in the hopes that they could have Dakota rejoin their family at a later date.  Six months on and this was just not possible and so we began our search to find a new forever home for her.  Very quickly, we were able to find a superb match for her with Jayne and her husband … and also with their 3-legged lurcher “Scruffy”.  We have just received these beautiful photos of Dakota in her new “des-res” along with the following words: “We’re over the moon with her – she’s a babe!  Thank you so much for allowing her to come into our lives.”  It certainly seems like she is just as pleased to be a new part of the family as Jayne is to have her.

BEAU has started again .. and what a start he's got!

beau2
BeauBed

Some days, it seems like life just isn’t fair and I’m sure that was the case for Beau and his previous owners.  Beau had lived with his litter brother from being a puppy but the pair of hooligans proved a little too much and were rehomed again, together, as adolescent males.  As so often can be the case, as the pair grew older and testosterone kicked in, it became apparent that each of them thought he was the top dog and, as the saying goes, “there can only be one”.  This led to unrest as the boys grew stronger and more powerful until sadly, the decision was taken that Beau would need to be rehomed again, but this time without his brother.

Enter Rebecca and Andy, stage left! We were absolutely delighted when the home offered by Rebecca and Andy was everything lovely Beau could wish for.  As you can see, he has slotted in like a Jenga piece and has well and truly fallen on his paws in his new life.  It’s early days, but already he has taken his place as lord of the manor and is lapping up the snuggles and cuddles.

Well done Beau, everything comes to those who wait xxx

INDI & HAZE another happy ending

We were contacted about Indi and Haze and asked for help.  Their owner’s personal situation had changed leaving her in the unenviable situation of having to let these two beauties go.  They’d always been together so we really didn’t want to split them up.  In no time at all, we were able to find JUST the right home for them from our list of Potential Owners … a home that consisted of three loving sets of arms, a very close-by beach and most importantly two VERY comfy sofas!  As you can see, Indi and Haze have spent no time at all on the transition and already look very like they’ve been there all along.

It’s always sad when owners have to give up their beloved ginger family members, but at least we can ease the pain a tiny bit by letting them know how happy their lives still are, even having had to start again somewhere new.  Girls, you’ve landed on your feet alright. Enjoy the sand and sea xx

THEMBA has bagged herself a new forever home!

Themba
Themba a - Copy - Copy

After a very short hunt, it didn’t take long for Themba to get herself a brand new family.  Well, when you’re that stunning, it’s not surprising we were beating folks off with a stick!!! …. seriously, we are delighted not only by the huge amount of interest we had in adopting Themba, but by the fact that she was able to go off to her new home so very quickly.

Have a great life gorgeous girl – and be good!! xx

MARLEY IS UP, UP AND AWAY TO SCOTLAND

Marley goodbye
marley lynn

Today was a good day.  The weather was warm and fine as Stephen started his journey down from Scotland.  I got a phone call to say traffic was very light and he’d be with us an hour earlier than planned … what a good omen!  When he arrived, I could see how much he had already fallen in love with Marley, even before meeting him in the flesh.  With very little persuasion and a couple of yummy treats, our big hunk of love had already hopped in the back of the car and decided he was where he needed to be.  We love all the dogs who come through our doors but Marley made a big impression on everyone in the kennels and the Trustees here at Rescue too.  Fella, you will have the most wonderful life with Lynn and Stephen and I look forward to lots of updates all about your adventures.  Sometimes, you just know when you’ve won the lottery and for Marley, this is the home he deserves and the family who already adore him!  Good luck gorgeous, be good!

marley paradise
marley comfy

We love it when we get updates and today, just a few days after starting his new life, it appears that Marley has fully accepted his new role of “bed-hogger and cuddle-monster”.  Totally landed on 4 paws like a pro! Marley, you make my heart sing xx

REUBEN HAS A NEW HOME and we are all delighted

reuben2
reuben3

As you know, we always strive to be the best doggy match-makers that we can.  We take care and time to make sure what the family can offer is exactly what the dogs need.  We are delighted that Reuben has found his wonderful match with Clinton.  Clinton is in the enviable position that he will be able to spend pretty much the whole time with Reuben and will even be able to share his day at work with him too.  We just know that Clinton and Reuben will be bonded for life and that he will go some way to fill the hole left when his previous girl Ruby crossed over the bridge.  New dogs are never a replacement, but they do make excellent sticking plasters for your heart.

I know his previous family did not want to let him go, so finding this wonderful man with which to share his life truly is a blessing.  We love a happy ending.

REMY ... off to pastures new

Remy
Remy2

Wonderful Remy had a very quick stay with us in kennels but has already been snapped up by one of our Rescue Followers who had filled out a Potential Owner’s Form.  This one was a very quick turn around as we already had exactly the right family ready, waiting and vetted to take Remy and what a match they are!  He has settled in very well and has a new Poodle for a sister – the two are already firm friends and it looks as if life will continue to be very rosie indeed for our Remy.

Well done fella, you carry on being the handsome dude that you are!

APOLLO .... AND HIS NEW FRIENDS

Well we we weren’t sure how things would go with cats or chickens either for that matter, but Apollo has totally knocked it out the park!  Now perfectly happy sharing his life with all his new friends, you would never know he hadn’t lived their forever!  Seeing Apollo flourish and being so happy in his new surroundings really does make your heart sing.  Well done fella, you really showed what you’re made of.

We have just had word from his new owner that Apollo has passed is Bronze Good Citizen Award and is absolutely the model companion!

CONGRATULATIONS APOLLO …  keep up the good work

BILLI & DIWA

Diwa
buli

These beautiful older ladies were given up due to the poor health  of their owner.  First to the pound in Sheffield and then to us, we were only too pleased when our Facebook appeal proved successful and a home was secured for them TOGETHER.

Buli & Diwa have made their way north and found their new home in Scotland, a home where they can relax, be spoiled and live every day in love and affection.  Well done ladies … you deserve the very best xx

LOKI - MELTED HIS FOSTERERS!!!

loki

Loki has managed to sweet-talk his fosterers who have now decided that he’s staying with them!  It is lovely when we have selfless people who will step in and foster for us when we need them too, but often they fall in love hopelessly and can’t give the dogs back – and that’s just what happened with Loki.  We are delighted that his life is now sewn-up and he’s worked his ginger magic!  Have a great life gorgeous boy!

ELLA IS NOW LIVING IT UP!

IMG_4040
IMG_4021

We are absolutely delighted that beautiful Ella is now firmly settled in her new home … and even has a new brother too!  She has got her paws right under the table, so much so that the cheeky monkey cuddles up with him and sleeps in his bed with him too!  It’s as if she has always been there and within two weeks, the pair had already become inseparable.

We love a happy ending and, as you can see, Ella has struck pure gold.  Good luck Ella, be happy xx

WOODY & NYAH have found their forever home TOGETHER !!

Woody and Nyah are brother and sister.  They are 4 years old and love eachother dearly, so much so that they needed to be rehomed together.

Woody is very loving boy who loves his cuddles. He likes going for a dip in the water (Ridgeacks and water?) and has a great recall.  Woody loves playing ridgeback-style with his sister.

Nyah is a reserved girl who has cuddles when she wants them.  She also likes going in the water and has a good recall until she see’s something that she wants to chase in the distance …. then she’s off!  She loves her food and to play with balls

ZULA YOU WILL BE SO SPOILT!

zula2
Zula

Some dogs need JUST THE RIGHT home.  We are very careful to make sure all the dogs who come through our doors are matched to the home and family who suit their needs best.  Zula is such a lovely girl who is full of life, power and wants to please.  We are absolutely over the moon that she has found her match and is already one of the family.  As much as we love all our dogs, I think you will understand when we say we never want to see them back again and so this level of care in selection is paramount.  Zula is now getting the love and devotion she needs.  She has a Canine Trainer booked already and will soon be looking to start a hobby with agility too – Zula, your life just sky-rocketed into pure happiness my darling.  Be a good girl!!! xx

Frankie ... off to pastures new in Bonny Scotland

Frankie1
Frankie2

When somebody thinks you are the one for them, they’re prepared to do some serious miles!  We are thrilled that the lovely Frankie has found her new forever home across the border in Bonny Scotland!  Frankie was lucky enough to have wowed one of our previous owners and has made her way up to start a fresh.  Good luck Frankie, I’m sure you will be just as adored as Indiana and Jake were too.

Zara has found her new home and she couldn't be happier!

Zara, now Missy, managed to be in and out of kennels in an absolute flash at the New Year.  She very quickly caught the eye of one of our previours Rescuers and bagged herself a brand new home with a ready made brother, Piper the Ridgeback, to play with.  The two got along instantly and the little madam had pride of place on the sofa before the day was out!  It’s lovely to see her living the life she deserves, running about playing and reaping the rewards that her wonderful temperament brings.  Good girl Missy – behave yourself you furry little monkey trousers!

Marlin has a new daddy ... and you'd never know he'd ever lived anywhere else!

Merlin now goes EVERYWHERE with his new guardian Graham – and especially loves to ride shotgun in the car!  The two of them are inseparable and you can see the love they have for one another quite clearly.  They are already like an old married couple … I guess some things are just meant to be.  Graham and Merlin invited Julie, Tyler and Kerry down for a visit last month and it was an absolute joy to see.  A cup of tea for us and countless gingersnaps for Merlin … you lucky lad!

Rex - the cheeky monkey won his foster carers round!

rex1

Rex didn’t do very well in kennels so it was great news when we were able to find him a foster home while he looked for his new family, however ….. as is often the way, Rex’s temporary foster-home simply couldn’t part with the big soppy lump and decided instead that they should be his new Forever Home.  His paws now firmly under their table, Rex has already enjoyed holidays away and trips in the Motorhome.  What a lucky lad.

Jake - old doesn't mean finished ... it means extra lovable

jake
Jake horses

Jake came to us in a sorry state … 13 year’s old, poor on his legs and with a terrible breathing problem.  We were so relieved when we were able to find a new family for Jake but honestly, he wasn’t in the best shape so we didn’t know how long he would have.  Well, it just goes to show what the power of love can do for you!  Jake has a new lease of life, is back on his feet trotting about  happily and has made friends with all his new family … including a staff, four house cats and even a horse!!!  Last week, he celebrated his 14th birthday .. happy birthday Jake, we love you to the moon and back.

Rocky and Gazelle - the original "we want to be together" couple

rocky gazelle5
rocky gazelle7

Rocky and Gazelle came to us as a pair … boyfriend and girlfriend if you will.  They were 10 years old and not in the best state but we soon got them into a better physical condition, and sorted out the vet care Gazelle needed.  Having been a pair all of their lives, we were keen that they should stay together as the married couple they truly seemed to be.  Rocky and Gazelle eventually found a home where they could indeed be together to live out their days in warmth and comfort.  We can’t do anything about their pasts, but with your help, we made sure their future was one they deserved.  Some of them steal your heart as well as your biscuits!

Kampala - the only thing bigger than his appetite is his heart

kampala7
kampala4

When Kampala came to us, he was a BIG lad.  He had a big voice, and an even bigger waistline and guarded his kennel for all it was worth.  However, it soon became apparent that Kampala was just a big soft ginger cuddle bunny and any excuse he could find, he’ be on your lap ready to steal your affection.  After a month or so, the weight started to come off and the real ginger ninja shone through.  Kampala  found his new home where he could be spoilt and adored in equal measure, way down south where clotted cream teas are plentiful … I just hope his waistline doesn’t return to its former glory!  Kampala, I know how you love your food so watch that figure my darling!
