Photograph Competition

Visit Worcestershire have recently run the 'Woofcestershire' Photograph Competition, which was won by local photographer Terry Mobbs with this magnificent photograph taken on Hartlebury Common, against the setting sun.

Terry's prize was a years supply of food, donated by Royal Canin for his dog Jenson. Happily, Terry and Jenson agreed that there were many more needy ridgebacks deserving of the prize, and promptly donated it to us!

A lovely gesture for which we cannot thank you enough.......

Many thanks Terry and Jenson.

Ridgeback Rescue Paws Draw 2015 Rules and Application Form

02.11.2014
LilyThe ridgeback world recently lost a doyen of the breed in Jack Selby.

Jack was a founder member of the Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club, who also served as secretary for 25 years. In more recent years he held the office of Club President.

Jack will be missed by all, not only for his knowledge of the breed but for his wicked sense of humour and the twinkle in his eye.

Our thanks go to Jack's family, who requested donations for rescue in his memory, in lieu of flowers at his funeral, and to all who donated. The sum raised was a fantastic £710, particular thanks to Len Evans and Mick and Marie Street for their more than generous donations.

Our thoughts are with the family, RIP Jack.........

30.10.2014A Quiz Night in Support of Rescue!

The Quiz was held on Saturday 25th October 2014 at the Normanton-On-Soar Village Hall.

The little grey cells were well tested at our 3rd quiz to raise funds for Ridgeback Rescue.

Twelve teams battled it out with the final round determining the winner by the tiniest margin.

We raised £468.50 on the night. Well done everyone.

So, if you can instantly recall (without the use of Google search) the name of the prison in the TV sitcom Porridge, or the home stadium of Bristol City FC, then maybe our quiz is for you. Anyone interested in having a go, our next event is on 25th April 2015.

Or, you could take the quiz to a venue near you and raise funds for rescue. We have all the questions, answers and flyers to advertise. If interested get I touch with geoff@ridgebackrescue.co.uk

26.10.2014Stella continues to make good progress after her operation.

She was still a bit woozy on the day after the op, but one day on from that and she was much more her old self. She's now eating normally and even taking a gentle wander about. All in all recovery going as expected which is so good to hear.

Keep it up Stella, fingers and toes are crossed globally for you.......

Good luck for your operation today Stella, most of the ridgeback
world is thinking of you and awaiting news with baited breath!

News Extra - Stella has had her operation! All went well, but she will stay overnight with the vet. All being well she'll go home in the morning......

Hoorah............... so far so good...........

Updated 23rd October 2014

Unfortunately there has been a further delay in Stella's treatment. Because of the nature of the surgery required, the head vet feels that his experience and expertise is necessary to give Stella the best chance. Unfortunately this means that the operation will now not take place until Thursday 23rd October.

As frustrating as this is to all of us, we have to be guided by the professionals, we trust you'll understand.

On the plus side she has settled into her foster home extremely well. Apparently she has been having a whale of a time, charging around the fields with her new ridgie friends.

Good girl Stella, glad you're enjoying life!

Updated 17th October 2014

Stella has been assessed, the result of this is that she'll have both mammary strips removed, and be spayed, next Tuesday. This is not a small operation for her, so fingers crossed that all goes well and the outcome is as we would all wish.

Good luck sweet Stella, we'll all be thinking of you.

It looks as though Stella is another who has found her way to us having been used for breeding.

She has a lovely nature and loves a fuss but sadly has some medical problems. She has some lumps scattered over her body which will need investigation but more worrying is her mammary glands, which are also somewhat lumpy. At the minimum she will need a mastectomy of the whole mammary strip, both sides, and to be speyed.

We want to give lovely old Stella every chance, but this operation alone will cost in the region of £700.00 and may not be the end of her problems. To obtain a more certain diagnosis would entail more advanced testing which could run into thousands of pounds. Even a £700.00 veterinary bill, on top of our ongoing bill and the thousands spent on kennelling every year, would considerably deplete our funds. This we can barely afford, but what else can we do, put her to sleep? No!

That is why today we are launching our "Give Stella a Chance" appeal. If you would like to help, donations can be made by clicking on "Give Stella a Chance" and following the instructions. If we can raise the £700 that would be marvellous, if we can raise more than that so much the better for Stella.

She will need a recovery period of about two weeks, under constant supervision, certainly in the early stages. Unfortunately this is pretty much impossible at the kennels. So, not only does she need your money, she needs your home! Is there any kind soul out there who would be prepared to foster her for the recovery period? Ideally someone experienced with dogs but perhaps dog free at the moment. If so please email janice@ridgebackrescue.co.uk

Not a great distance, except that Jordan suffers from Hypotonic Cerebral Palsy. As a result, he has visual impairment, low muscle tone (dysplasia) and no speech; this was to be his Everest.

The recipients of any funds raised by this expedition were to be two charities which are very dear to Jordan, The Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Support and Rescue Trust and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Breed Council

The Breed Council representing all four Rhodesian Ridgeback Clubs in Britain meets twice a year to discuss all Rhodesian Ridgeback related issues. Its function is to collate the collective views of all clubs and present them to The Kennel Club. News of The Breed Council activities will be posted as available.

Discover Dogs

Discover Dogs is becoming increasingly popular. In future on ridgeback day at Crufts, the stand will be manned, and ridgebacked, by some of our Rescue Rhodesian Ridgebacks (check out their stories). We also attend Discover Dogs at Earls Court, London, in November and in May we represent Rhodesian Ridgebacks at the "All About Dogs" exhibition in Essex. We always need people to help with these events so if you would care to volunteer your services for a couple of hours it will alleviate the strain on the regulars who do a full days stint, which is unfair on their Ridgebacks. With hundreds of people milling around asking questions, some sensible, some ridiculous, even Ridgebacks get tired out. As long as your dog is "bombproof" and you like talking (and lets face it what RR owner doesn't) Please offer to help.
